What are NFTs?

Explore the unique digital assets that power gameplay in Star Atlas

In Star Atlas, NFTs (non-fungible tokens) represent ownership of in-game items stored on the blockchain. These digital assets can be used within gameplay or traded with other players on the Star Atlas Marketplace. When you purchase an NFT in Star Atlas, it becomes part of your connected wallet and your personal Inventory.

Each NFT is unique and serves a specific purpose in the Star Atlas metaverse whether it's piloting a ship, mining planetary resources, outfitting your crew or customizing your experience

Types of NFTs in Star Atlas

Ships

Ships are core to gameplay. Each comes with its own stats like cargo capacity, speed, and firepower, and serves roles such as combat, transport, or exploration.

  • Buyable on the Marketplace using ATLAS or USDC

  • Playable in Faction Fleet and SAGE Labs

  • Flyable in the UE5 3D Game (available on the Epic Games Store)

  • Can be upgraded, customized, and staffed with Crew

  • Can be rented in Faction Fleet

Claim Stakes

Claim Stakes are essential for planetary operations. They allow players to claim plots of land and produce R4 resources (food, fuel, toolkits, ammo) when enlisted in Faction Claims

  • Currently usable in Faction Claims to passively earn R4 resources (Fuel, Food, Ammo, Toolkits)

  • Foundational for future gameplay in SAGE and UE5, where they will support mining, building, and deeper planetary mechanics

  • Buyable on the Star Atlas Marketplace using ATLAS or USDC

Crew

Crew members are essential to operating ships and maximizing fleet performance in Star Atlas.

Resources 

Resources in Star Atlas include a wide array of materials used across the economy and gameplay systems.

  • R4 resources – Food, Fuel, Ammo, and Toolkits, are vital for maintaining fleets and starbases

  • Other resources include raw and refined materials used for crafting and upgrading assets in SAGE Labs and (eventually) UE5

Collectibles

Collectibles are aesthetic or commemorative NFTs with future utility in UE5 or broader Star Atlas systems.

Categories include:

  • Crew Gear – Decorative items like patches and skins

  • Charms – Rewards for specific achievements

  • Emotes – Will be used in the UE5 game

  • Memories – Lore and worldbuilding artifacts

  • Posters – Art collectibles and displayables

  • Pets – Decorative companions, with future perks

  • Skins – Ship cosmetics

  • Trophies – Earned through community or in-game events

Access

NFTs that serve as licenses, permits, or event badges. These may offer perks or be commemorative.

Where Can I Use These NFTs?

  • Faction Fleet: Stake ships and earn passive ATLAS

  • SAGE Labs: Use ships, crew, and resources to explore, craft, and battle

  • UE5 Game: Fly your ship and use your crew as your avatar, with more asset integrations coming in the future

  • Fleet Rental: Create a fleet in SAGE and rent it to other players for passive income

  • Marketplace: Trade NFTs with others for ATLAS or USDC
