Mining allows your fleet to gather resources from planets and asteroids across the Galia Expanse.
This guide explains how to prepare a mining fleet, find mineable resources, move to the correct location, start mining, and stop mining when your fleet needs to return to base.
Note: C4 PTR is still in development. Mining behavior, requirements, resources, and interface details may change over time.
Before you start
Before mining, you need to create a fleet.
If you have not created a fleet yet, check the How to Create and Use a Fleet in C4 PTR guide first.
Your mining fleet should be prepared with the right ships, fuel, food, and enough available cargo space to collect resources.
Step 1: Review your ship stats in the Config Bay
Before forming a mining fleet, you can review your ships from the Config Bay inside the Hangar.
The Config Bay shows ship stats and can help you choose the best ships for the role you want your fleet to perform.
For mining, pay attention to mining-related stats and cargo capacity.
You can also review the stats of the fleet while creating or updating it.
When you are in the fleet staging / manifest screen, click Show Stats to view detailed fleet stats before forming or updating the fleet.
Step 2: Prepare fuel, food, and cargo space
To mine, your fleet needs the right supplies.
Your mining fleet should have:
- Fuel Pod Fuel for movement
- Food for the crew
- Ammo Pod Ammunition for mining with most ships
- Enough available cargo space to collect mined resources
Note: Armstrong miners do not require ammo for mining.
Be careful when loading food or other cargo into the fleet. Food is stored in cargo, so if you fill your entire cargo hold with food, your fleet will not have space left to collect mined resources.
Try to find the right balance between enough supplies for the operation and enough empty cargo space for mining.
Also make sure you are using the correct resource type:
- Fuel - Fuel Pod is used for fleet movement.
- Fuel - Cargo Hold is stored as cargo and is not used the same way for flight.
- Ammunition - Ammo Pod is used for mining with most ships.
- Ammunition - Cargo Hold is stored as cargo and is not used the same way for mining.
Step 3: Form and undock your fleet
Once you know which ships and supplies you want to use:
- Form your fleet from the Hangar.
- Add the ships you want to use.
- Add the fuel and food needed for the operation.
- Make sure you still have empty cargo space.
- Click Form Fleet.
- From the Hangar view, select the fleet.
- Click Undock.
Your fleet must be undocked before it can move or mine.
Step 4: Find a resource to mine
Different planets and asteroids can have different resources available.
To check what resources are available:
-
Click the planet or asteroid you want to inspect.
-
Review the list of available resources on that celestial body.
- Decide which resource you want to mine.
Step 5: Move your fleet to the mining location
Once you have chosen where you want to mine, move your fleet to that location.
You can move your fleet using available movement options such as:
- Warp
- Subwarp
Select the movement option that fits your situation and move the fleet to the planet or asteroid where the resource is available.
Step 6: Select your fleet
When your fleet arrives at the mining location, keep it undocked and select it.
You can quickly find your fleet using the My Fleets menu at the top of the screen.
To select your fleet:
- Open My Fleets.
- Click the fleet you want to use.
- The fleet menu will open on the left side of the screen.
Step 7: Start mining
With your fleet selected:
-
Click Mine from the fleet action menu.
-
Select the available celestial body you want to mine.
-
Select the resource you want to mine.
-
Click Start Mining at the bottom of the menu.
You can select up to 8 resources for the fleet to mine at the same time, as long as those resources are available at the selected location.
Step 8: Monitor your fleet
While mining, monitor your fleet’s cargo and supplies.
You may need to stop mining when:
- Your fleet cargo is full
- Your fleet is running low on food
- You want to move to another location
- You want to return resources to a Starbase
If your cargo is full, your fleet will not be able to collect more resources.
Step 9: Stop mining and return to base
When your fleet is full or you want to end the mining operation:
- Stop mining.
- Move your fleet back to a Starbase.
- Dock the fleet.
- Empty the fleet cargo.
Once the cargo is emptied and your fleet has the supplies it needs, you can undock again and start another mining run.
