How to Scan in C4 PTR

Scanning allows your fleet to search space for SDUs, which can be used in crafting recipes.

This guide explains how to prepare a scanning fleet, move it to the area you want to scan, and start a scan sweep.

Note: C4 PTR is still in development. Scanning behavior, scan patterns, costs, and results may change over time.

 

 

Before you start

Before scanning, you need to create a fleet and move it to the area where you want to scan.

To scan, your fleet needs:

  • Fuel to move
  • Repair Kits to perform scan sweeps

Make sure your fleet has both before you start.

 

 

Step 1: Prepare your fleet

Before starting a scan:

  1. Create your fleet.
  2. Add the ships you want to use.
  3. Add enough Fuel for travel.
  4. Add enough Repair Kits for scanning.
  5. Undock the fleet.

Your fleet must be undocked before it can scan.

 

 

Step 2: Move your fleet to the scan location

Once your fleet is ready, move it to the area where you want to scan.

You can use your normal fleet movement options, such as:

  • Warp
  • Subwarp
  • Warp Gate when available

When your fleet arrives, keep it undocked and select it.

 

 

Step 3: Open the Scan menu

To begin scanning:

  1. Select your fleet.
  2. Open the fleet action menu.
  3. Click Scan.

This opens the Scan Sweep view.

 

 

Step 4: Choose a scan pattern

In the Scan Sweep view, you will see several scan patterns.

Each pattern has its own scanning characteristics, the selected pattern affects the scan area and the cost of the scan.

For example, different patterns may change:

  • The size of the scan area
  • The signal value
  • The amount of Repair Kits required

To start a scan:

  1. Review the available scan patterns.
  2. Click the pattern you want to use.
  3. Confirm the scan by clicking Ready.

 

 

Step 5: Start scanning

After selecting a scan pattern and confirming it, your fleet will begin the scan sweep.

The goal of scanning is to find SDUs, which can later be used for crafting recipes.

Depending on future updates, scanning behavior, results, and follow-up actions may change.
